ALUMNI SEPTEMBER SPOTLIGHT: ERICA ROOT
The Alumni Spotlight for September 2019 is Mrs. Erica Root (Hogg). Erica is an artist, illustrator, and 1996 SCPA graduate.
Erica recently signed with Lila Rogers Studio, which she describes as a dream come true! She said SCPA fostered her love of art in such a wonderful way that she has carried it into adulthood. She believes that acknowledging creative passion in children is so valuable and can allow even the littlest creative dreamers to hang on to that dream until it become reality.
Erica describes herself as a self proclaimed art nerd living in the colorful, lively, and sometimes gritty city of Philadelphia with her husband and two children.
CONGRATULATIONS ERICA!!

Another year another successful Lachey Arts Musical Theater Camp at SCPA. For the past few years Alumni and performers Lea and Drew Lachey have produced an amazing music theater camp experience for many kids from all over. The camp is only a few weeks yet SCPA Music Theater students and kids from the camp get a great theater experience from people in the business. Students get training from many artists from fellow alum, Jay Goodlett to Merle Dandridge.
Students performed a variety of songs and scenes from musicals like Music Man and Rent. We salute Lea and Drew for pushing music theater forward at SCPA every year!

SCPA ART TEACHER HAS AN ART EXIBITION COMING SOON!
|
|
SCPA’s Visual Arts teacher, Alice Pixley Young has an upcoming exhibition at the Taft Museum of Art. Her multimedia immersive installation invokes 19th century landscape traditions while examining environmental change in today’s natural world. The exhibition program states, “Her installation will offer a contemporary counterpoint to the landscape paintings in the Taft’s permanent collection.” This is a hallmark of SCPA – teachers who bring their professional/artistic practice in to the classroom. Congratulations, Alice!
