ALUMNI BRAVO!

June 2019

NEW ALUMNI ISSUE

WELCOME THE NEXT GENERATION OF ALUMNI!

THE CLASS OF 2019

The Class of 2019 is proof that an learning community in the arts as well as academics produces big results! Here are some stats about the next class of Alumni!

The Class of 2019 is SCPA’s 40th graduating class! For the fourth year in a row SCPA has achieved a 100% graduation rate, with 90% of our graduates matriculating to college. The Class of 2019 has earned more than $12.3 million in college aid, with some students earning a quarter million dollars of scholarship aid to attend colleges like: Dartmouth, Oberlin Conservatory, Rhode Island School of Design, University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), The Julliard School, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Conservatory, New York University, and American University. They will also be attending our region’s colleges, like: the University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, Northern Kentucky University, Wright State University, Ohio University, Kent State University, Bowling Green University, The Ohio State University, University of Louisville, Shawnee State University, Cincinnati State, and Sinclair Community College.

They will be pursuing arts majors, such as: Vocal Performance, Illustration, Double Bass Performance, Jazz Performance, Piano Performance, Violin Performance, Film, Playwriting, and Animation/Comic Narrative. They will also be pursuing non-arts majors, like: Forensic Toxicology; Business; Geology; Biology; Education; Psychology; Journalism; Chemistry; Aviation; and, Astrophysics.

It’s also important to note that a few students will take a ‘gap year’ as they are still sorting out ‘what’s next’. And, a couple will enter the trades, like a carpentry apprenticeship program. What’s most important to us is that students are pursuing a career path, post-SCPA, that is right for them and will allow them to ultimately ‘make a living’ and be a productive citizen.

Tonight, we celebrated all 107 of our graduates, and the village that supported them in realizing their successes – especially our teachers!

Thank you to all of our SCPA Family, for all that you have done to help launch our students!

– Nick Nissely, SCPA Executive Director

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT!
We shine a light monthly on SCPA Alumni who are taking the world by storm with the tools they learned in life both during and after time at SCPA.

To be considered to be in the Alumni Spotlight for an upcoming issue of the Alumni Bravo Newsletter submit your story to info@scpaalumni.org.

ALUMNI JUNE SPOTLIGHT: MARIAMA DODD
This months alumni spotlight goes out to SCPA Class of 2019 Alumni, Mariama Dodd!

Mariama is a 2019 graduate of SCPA! Mariama majored in Visual Arts and is known among SCPA staff and students as a true talent.

This description of Mariama  is highly accurate because she is now making headlines with one of the largest Scholarship offers in SCPA history.  Mariama has received two million dollars in scholarships to schools such as: NYU, Vasar, Dartmouth, Cornell, University of California Berkley, Washington University, St. Louis, and Williams College!

Maraima plans to major in International Law at Dartmouth!

This is just one of many success stories coming from the class of 2019 at SCPA. We wish Mariama and her entire class so much success and happiness as they enter the next chapter of their lives Post-SCPA.

See link to the local news article/ interview about Mariama Dodd and her amazing journey!

THE SCPA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION & COMMUNITY REMEMBERS
THE AWSOME LIFE AND SPIRIT OF

MR. GEORGE RILEY SR.

The SCPA Community is forever changed because of Mr.Riley. He served SCPA as a security guard for many years! There are still many members of our alumni family that when they think back on their time at SCPA they can’t help but think about Mr. Riley. In fact there was a time you couldn’t get in through the front doors of the school without interacting with him. Most of us called him our “Grandpa” because of the real and personal connections he’d make with each of us.

Mr.Riley’s devotion to our school and to our development as young people was shown through his great conversations and his spirit. It is because of the amazing and infectious spirit of Mr.Riley, that many students carry those qualities with them! Mr. George Riley Sr. is proof that you can educate and build up young people outside of the classroom and we are so appreciative to have had him in our lives. On behalf of all the SCPA Alumni, We thank you and we salute you!

-The Alumni Board of Directors

SCPA NEWS AND EVENTS!
Supporting SCPA and all the current events and achivements made by Students and Staff in Arts and Academics

SCPA IS OUT FOR SUMMER VACATION! SUMMER DANCE IS IN!

SCPA STUDENTS CONTINUE COLLAB WITH P&G

Thanks to SCPA partnering with P&G’s Secret brand – 20 SCPA students have had the opportunity of a lifetime over the past couple of months – engaging in creative work with this awesome client. In a nutshell, the Secret team has developed a really hard-hitting song for the brand/advertising (‘All Strength, No Sweat’). And, they engaged our SCPA students to build on what they’ve developed.

SCPA’s Artistic Director Angela Powell Walker, Principal Michael D. Owens, along with the P&G’s Secret team, and five celebrity coaches/mentors got to see the students’ final products. Vocal, instrumental, and creative writing students collaborated to create a song. And, dance students developed a film of their dance – literally on stage throughout Cincinnati.

Graduating senior,
Isabella Siska produced a must-see film of the dance performance.

These students’ work will ultimately be content for the Secret ‘All Strength, No Sweat’ ad campaign. Stay tuned! It’s another great example – how amazing partnerships (thank you Secret!) are supporting rich, hands-on learning for SCPA’s students, as we prepare them to make a living in the arts.
