ALUMNI MERCHANDISE UPDATE
FROM MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE
|
|
SCPA Alumni,
The Marketing and Communication team with the Alumni Association, has gotten a lot of messages via email and social media about T-Shirts and Yearbook sales. We love that so many Alumni are excited to rock our gear!
As of now we have been actively working to get something like that up and running for the near future. In the meantime, we will be finding some short term solutions for those who crave to represent the SCPA Alumni Name!
Sadly, that means we are not selling any Alumni merchandise at this time.
However, stay connected with the Alumni Association to be notified when and how Alumni Merchandise goes on sale! A public announcement will be made with details on how to purchase your Alumni Merchandise! Stay tuned!
Thanks,
Marketing team

THE ALUMNI BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLIES DRIVE
A MESSAGE FROM SCPA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
|
|
On behalf of the School’s Leadership Team, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you, to you, the Alumni Association Board of Directors, and the Engagement Committee, for investing your time and energy in this event; and, your vision to continue to grow alumni engagement. In addition, the incredibly kind and generous donations from alumni – donations to the ‘Back to School Supplies Drive’ – are deeply appreciated. It speaks volumes to the deep sense of love and care that alumni feel for the school and our ‘next generation’ of SCPA alums. To have gotten 80+ attendees in such sweltering heat is a testament to the pride and sense of family felt by SCPA alumni.
Your leadership is very much appreciated and valued. Thanks again!
Nick

ALUMNI AUGUST SPOTLIGHT: CHELSEA HILLARD
|
|
The Alumni Spotlight for August 2019 is the music education queen, Ms.Chelsea Hillard. Chelsea is a 2011 graduate of SCPA who believes in the power of music education. Chelsea is a K-6 Music Teacher for Cincinnati Public Schools and has been teaching for the last few years.
Chelsea knew while attending SCPA that she would want to go to college for something arts related. She originally planned on pursuing musical theater, but during her junior year of high school Ms. Wyant (vocal music) had to miss a few weeks of school due to a family emergency. None of the vocal substitutes were trained, so since she could play piano she took over rehearsing the Children’s Choir, Baby Grands, and Chorale. Having that experience in front of the classroom completely changed her career path and solidified her passion for music education!
The first two years of her career were spent teaching middle school choir, show choir, and high school show choir/musical theater. When she left her first school district to teach K-6 music in Cincinnati Public it felt like I was starting teaching over. She then decided to document the new teaching journey on YouTube and have felt so much love and support from the teaching community along the way!
Not only is Chelsea dedicated to her students at CPS, but she’s also dedicated to helping and giving back information and advice to other educators with her vlogs, Teaching in Pearls.
Teaching in Pearls is her YouTube channel. It came about because she thought she was going to start a blog. she said she always has worn pearl earring studs, because they “go with” everything she wears and –alas, Teaching in Pearls was born!
Chelsea teaches at one of our CPS neighborhood schools and work with 600+ students who are exposed to an unfair amount of trauma at a young age. Her goal is always for the classroom to be a safe, encouraging, and fun place for her 600+ students to receive the same music education opportunities as their suburban counterparts.
Chelsea is a light at her school and for her students. She also credits SCPA with her success by saying:
“SCPA is the only reason that I am the person I am today. Before attending SCPA I was painfully shy, but by the end of seventh grade I was an entirely different person. My teachers were always offering me opportunities to push myself further academically and artistically whether it be playing trumpet next to paid professionals in the Cats pit, serving as a lawyer on the AP English mock trial, or traveling to Italy with Baby Grands. I owe everything to my experiences at SCPA.”

SCPA Student helps Kolar Design Team
|
|
Kelly Kolar and her Kolar Design team, is helping The SCPA Fund to explore/better understand who they are and how to more effectively share our story with the wider community. Best of all, Kelly has invited an SCPA student Nshimirimana Liliane – Lili – to gain hands-on work experience with her world-class design agency. Lili got to play a role in facilitating a branding meeting at SCPA! Many other parts of the SCPA Community got to sit in on these meetings from Administrators, Teachers and Parents, to Alumni, Students, and community partners. Teresa Summe-Hass and her team brought us together to tell the story of SCPA through branding.
