Justice Art SCPA Letter

A message from JUSTICE ART SCPA. “Make Them Hear You!” To SCPA alumni, students, and faculty: Create art about your personal experience of racial justice and injustice. Put it on video, Submissions are being accepted now through December 2020.

One of the outstanding qualities that has run through SCPA is how students, faculty, and staff have always worked together. People with vastly different backgrounds, faiths, ethnicities, neighborhoods, and abilities came together to learn and grow and share and teach. The death of George Floyd prompted Cheyenne Gross, Class of 1994, to reach into the SCPA community to find a response that would show who and what SCPA really stood for. Alumni and teachers responded, all deeply disturbed by the state of racial, ethical, and social disorder continuing in our communities.

As the unrest continued, we met via ZOOM, pooling our skills to network and find SCPA talent from Cincinnati and beyond. Word spread. Alumni from many classes connected, compiled videos, shared and edited our work to produce Justice Art SCPA. With love, humor, community and purpose, all were compelled to take action.

Now, join us. Watch our video- Make Them Hear You. Look for the submission information. Raise your voices and take action. We did. SCPA, make them hear you!

~Mary Hennigan and Joyce Yonka, former SCPA faculty
